Italic Exemplars (August 2010)

It’s been almost a year since I last posted.  How time flies!

Ive been meaning to post these for the longest time: two Italic alphabets, one showing the recommended order of strokes and another, cleaner one showing some letter variations, and a guide sheet for writing on.  The alphabets are hardly perfect, but I trust they are clear enough.

I usually give these as handouts when doing calligraphy workshops: one copy each of the two alphabets, and four copies of the guide sheet.  And I bring a pile of guide sheets just in case people run out of them.

  1. Hiya Ludwig,

I saw your works are nice.
Do you work for customers for your calligraphy?

Also, do you have another website to show all your calligraphy works officially?

    My email is barrylsf@gmail.com

I would like to contact with you.

    Thanks a lot~!

  2. Wonderful exemplars. I'm taking a class in italic right now -- these could make for some great variations. Thanks so much for putting them up.

  4. Hi Ludwig!

I've been scouring the net looking for calligraphy interest (not just the usual chinese calligraphy) here in Singapore. And yours was the first I've found. Do you teach script calligraphy? or Do you know of workshops in SG which offers calligraphy class?

I really want to learn. You could contact me at souldeelight@gmail.com

    thanks,
    Dee

  5. What a beautiful "hand" you have! I am very impressed with your skill and knowledge.
I have been doodling with calligraphy for the past 30 years or so, but my goal this year is to improve and actually create something worth framing or giving.

  6. Many thanks for your really kind words, Debi! I'm sure you will, with some practice, very shortly produce a work that you'll be satisfied with. I write so little now that I wonder if I'm better now (after 26 years of practice) than I was early in my calligraphic 'career'. I think I produced my best work just 4 years after I picked up calligraphy as a hobby. Well, I guess it's never too late to practise!

  7. Your calligraphy is beautiful, and your handouts are very nicely done. I work at a little pen shop in New Orleans, LA, and we sell our own calligraphy kits. We've had some requests for an insert with simple instructions for using the round-hand nib, and yours is the nicest I've found. I was wondering if we could put a copy into our kits, with your name and blog address intact, of course.

Please email me at info@papierplume.com. Thanks! Nevenah Smith
