Sweetness of Friendship (2008)

This quote was written for the 2008 calendar of the Copperplate Special Interest Group (CSIG), a UK-based society I joined in 1998.  The style is Copperplate.  In hindsight, I realize the writing is too light, so it looks monoline: applying greater pressure on the nib while writing would have produced a more pleasing contrast between thick and thin strokes.

  1. Looks perfect to me! :-) The even strokes make the quotation easy to read, and complement this joyful, light-hearted piece.

  2. Thanks, Ruby! I see what you mean ... yet I guess I'll never be 100% satisfied with anything I've written. This was done when I was several months out of practice, so the writing looks stiff to me. The capital 'F' looks especially malformed!

  3. Woah, if that is malformed, then my handwriting must be exceptionally bad! Anyway, I'm sure your calligraphy will only improve if you get back to practicing. :-)

  5. I find it perfect as it is (what is ever perfect?) We must never find perfection in ourselves or our abilities, lest we quit trying harder . Also, we would have no friends, as they would choke on our smugness.
